When I embarked upon this journey to represent you, the people of the 2nd Congressional District, I did so with the mission of running a progressive grassroots people-powered campaign. A part of running a progressive grassroots people-powered campaign is connecting to the people in the most relatable and relevant way possible. That said, before grassroots researchers can offer remedies to the problems plaguing communities, they must first conduct a needs assessment. The needs assessment approach ensures that the grassroots organizer–in this case a candidate for Congressional office– is not dictating to the people what she/he believes are the people’s needs, but rather listening to what the people tell the grassroots organizer their needs are.
This approach is how I developed my platform– The Priorities of the People of the 2nd Congressional District. Thus, my platform is squarely centered around the priorities of the constituents of District 2. The priorities addressed are not conclusive of all the concerns of the district, but they do encompass a consistent range of concerns repeatedly referenced since I have been on the campaign trail in conversation with you, the people of the 2nd Congressional District.
I would like to thank everyone in the 2nd Congressional District for their invaluable input into identifying the priorities of our people-powered campaign. Additionally, I would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for contributing their time, effort, expertise and inspiration towards assisting us in compiling the assessment results into what we refer to authentically as “The Priorities of The People of the 2nd Congressional District”:
1. Dr.Jamar Myers Montgomery
2. Autrilla Sheba Gillis, EdD
3. Janice Dickerson, Ret. Environmental Justice Advocate
4. Steve Price, IV, MPA, MURP
5. The Movement 4 Black Lives. Again, to you, the people of the 2nd Congressional District, I express with the utmost sincerity that this may be my platform but these are your priorities. I have and will continue to listen to you and show you that I hear you.
In service and gratitude,
Gary Chambers, Jr.
Candidate for Congress, Louisiana 2nd Congressional District
